The association was established in the year of 1978 that at first represented as AMLAE which stands for Association of Malaysia Licensed Aircraft Engineer that aspire to become the national body that represents the working LAE’s throughout Malaysia.

The association was headed by the first president, Mr. Wong Yoong Sang with members consisting of the majority of LAE’s that was working in back then Malaysia Airlines System Berhad (MAS). However, due to the pressing need for an equitable representation of LAE’s profession in Malaysia Airlines itself, it subsequently became an in-house MAS association to represent LAE’s due the vast number of members that was currently working in the same company.

With this, it renamed and rebranded the association as it is known today as the Association of Malaysia Airlines License Aircraft Engineers (AMALAE). The association are affiliated with numerous numbers of bodies in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s such as International Federation of Airworthiness (IFA), Royal Aeronautical Society, Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia just to name a few. The members actively participated in organized conferences and forums becoming the key speakers, leaders and advocators concerning aviation safety and airworthiness matters in Malaysia. Numerous collaborations in experimental projects have been achieved such as experimental aircraft project with an all-metal aircraft fully fabricated in Malaysia that has culminated to a demonstration in an air show in LIMA ’99. Technical supports were also given to other experimental projects like one of the Rakan Muda 4B project. Multiple accomplishment has been attained under the association with improvements on technical grading stream for LAE’s and technical staff, attaining recognition of the profession statutorily by Malaysia Civil Aviation Regulation (MCAR) and manage to solve disputes between different parties.

The association was working very hard as for the acceptance of License Aircraft Engineer by society at large back then, especially within the engineering fraternity, as LAE’s was a relatively an unknown profession. Discussion with the likes of BEM, IEM, MBOT, MOHR, MOT, MOE, and other government agencies has been since actively engaged and progress has been made as the profession is being accepted today.

The association is still very much aspiring to continue the legacy of what the predecessor has able to accomplish and to carry on being the leader in striving Malaysia’s aviation safety and airworthiness.

It determines to further elevate the profession’s value in contributing towards the society’s air travel safety and to actively promote knowledge learning and sharing between the members and other entities.
